Core Charge Policy
A core charge is a refundable deposit that may apply to certain remanufactured, rebuilt, or exchange automotive parts. The charge encourages the return of the old component ("core") so it can be inspected, rebuilt, remanufactured, recycled, or otherwise returned to the parts supply chain.
1. When a Core Charge Applies
A core charge applies only when it is specifically identified as part of the product price, quotation, invoice, or order. Common examples may include certain engines, transmissions, alternators, starters, compressors, steering components, electronic modules, and other rebuildable assemblies.
2. Core Deposit
The core charge is separate from the price of the replacement part. When an eligible core is returned and accepted, the applicable core charge may be refunded according to this policy and any product-specific requirements communicated with the order.
3. Core Eligibility
For a full core refund, the returned core should generally be the corresponding original unit for the replacement part and should be substantially complete, assembled, and suitable for inspection or rebuilding. Exact requirements can vary by product and supplier.
4. Condition Requirements
A core may be rejected or receive a reduced credit if it has a broken or severely damaged housing, missing major components, extensive corrosion, fire or flood damage, evidence of unauthorized modification, contamination, or other damage that makes it unsuitable for rebuilding or recycling.
5. Complete Assembly
Do not disassemble the core unless North Wave Global Parts or the applicable supplier specifically instructs you to do so. Missing internal or external components can reduce or eliminate the available core credit.
6. Fluids and Safe Preparation
Where applicable, drain fluids from the core before shipment and package the unit safely to prevent leaks or transportation damage. Follow any specific preparation or packaging instructions supplied for the product. Customers are responsible for complying with applicable transportation and hazardous-material requirements.
7. Packaging
Whenever practical, use the packaging or container supplied with the replacement part for the core return. Heavy components should be secured properly to prevent damage during transit. Poor packaging that results in damage to an otherwise acceptable core may affect the core credit.
8. Return Timeframe
The applicable core-return deadline will be communicated with the order when a core charge applies. Unless a different timeframe is stated for the specific product, customers should contact us promptly after receiving the replacement part to arrange the core return. Some manufacturers and suppliers impose their own deadlines.
9. Return Shipping
Return shipping arrangements for cores depend on the product and supplier. Customers may be responsible for return freight unless the order or written return instructions state otherwise. For oversized cores, special freight arrangements may be required.
10. Inspection and Refund
Core refunds are issued after the returned core is received and inspected. The inspection determines whether the core meets the applicable eligibility and condition requirements. Refund timing may depend on inspection and processing by North Wave Global Parts, its supplier, or the manufacturer.
11. Partial or No Core Credit
If a core does not meet the applicable requirements, North Wave Global Parts or the relevant supplier may issue a reduced core credit or no core credit. Examples include an incorrect core, an incomplete assembly, severe damage, or a core that is not economically or technically rebuildable.
12. No Core Available
If you do not have a qualifying core to return, the core charge generally remains payable unless the applicable product or supplier terms provide another option. Contact us before placing an order if you need to confirm whether a core is required or whether a core waiver is available.
13. Core and Warranty Are Separate
A core charge is a refundable deposit and is separate from product warranty coverage. Returning a core does not by itself establish a warranty claim, and a warranty claim does not automatically eliminate a core-return obligation.
